Do You Like Me?

Fandom: Glee
Ship: Kurt Hummel/Blaine Anderson
For: Shuffle Challenge
Inspired By: Do You Like Me by ALL CAPS
Do you like me, yes or no?
Do you think that I'm cute?
Would you date me?
You can say maybe
I just have to know

It was such a childish approach and Kurt knew it, but he was dying over here. It had been a month since the whole When Harry Met Sally conversation and Kurt just didn't know where he stood any more. So as they sat side-by-side in English class on the Wednesday before Easter break, Kurt scribbled a note on a scrap piece of paper and slid it across the desk. Blaine glanced down at it briefly before looking at Kurt with his you're-being-ridiculous expression.

"Of course I do," he whispered, pushing the paper back. "You're my best friend, Kurt."

"I didn't mean it like that," Kurt hissed.

The teacher shot them a warning glare and Kurt's eyes fell to his desk. Turning the paper over, he re-worded his question before passing it back to Blaine. Kurt kept his eyes on his work, biting his lip. His heart pounded heavily in his chest and he felt nauseous. He heard a quiet "Oh." from Blaine and Kurt closed his eyes, kicking himself under the table for being so stupid.

"Why are you asking me this?"

"I just want to know," Kurt said, shrugging nonchalantly. A few minutes passed and Kurt knew that if he opened his eyes, he'd probably burst into tears. Blaine's hesitation couldn't be a good thing.

Then he felt Blaine's fingers brushing against his hand and his eyes shot open. Blaine pressed the note into Kurt's palm and Kurt curled his fingers around it instinctively. Blaine went back to his work without a word and Kurt couldn't bring himself to look over at the boy. He trembled slightly as he unfolded the paper, letting out the breath he'd been holding as he took a moment to let Blaine's answer sink in. Beneath the question Do you like me?, beneath the ignored Yes and No checkboxes, Blaine had written his response in elaborate bubble writing.

It's a secret.

"Blaine …" Kurt whispered, his voice strained.

Blaine kept his eyes on his work as he began to speak. "You can't make me answer that, Kurt. Not now. Not yet. I'm not ready. I … I can't mess this up."

"You can't keep me in the dark forever, Blaine."

"You can't force me into something I'm not ready for, Kurt. I'll tell you soon."

Kurt opened his mouth but couldn't get a word out before the teacher snapped "Hummel, Anderson, detention at lunch! Don't think I can't hear you whispering! I said no talking!"

Kurt sighed and glared at the desk. He was going to go absolutely insane if Blaine didn't tell him soon. He was getting desperate, and a desperate Kurt was never a good thing.

  1. Oh my gosh. This is REALLY good. I love it!!! It's so interesting and humorous, even though it's short.

I'm glad you finally decided to blog.
